A private equity firm, Cerberus Capital Management, purchased Remington in 2007. This included a lot of assumed debt, as the company did not turn a profit between the years 2003 and 2005. The company was then renamed, appropriately, the Freedom Group – which was renamed once again to the Remington Outdoor Company in 2015. After several years of profitability during the Obama Administration, the company filed for bankruptcy in March 2018. Like many firearms and ammunition manufacturers, it saw a downturn in overall sales and profitability after the election of Donald Trump to the presidency.
